In the Malay language, ‘Istana’ means “palace”. The Hotel’s logo features the Keris – a traditional hand weapon and reputed to possess magical qualities. As part of the regalia of Malay rulers, the keris thus plays a symbolic role in many royal ceremonies. Two intricately-carved marble sculptures of Sirih Junjung – a traditional and symbolic Malaysian welcome offering of betel leaves mainly used during celebratory occasions – amidst cascading fountains at the Hotel’s main entrance serve to emphasise the Hotel Istana’s hospitality concept.
